As someone who was in high school in the late 80s and 90s, I have a goldmine of classic high school movies to choose from (thank you, John Hughes and the Brat Pack). I chose this, however, because it was the movie that made me want to be an English teacher. Well, I already knew I wanted to be a teacher, but after this movie, I knew I could never be anything else!

I left in 9th grade, received my GED and began my journey through college! However, this song was being played at every high school graduation those years!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAOmTMCtGkI I chose Mean Girls because even though it came out before I began high school, this movie was beloved by everybody at my high school, and was quoted and referenced on a daily basis. I watched this movie countless times with my friends when I was in high school, and it reminds me of that period of time in my life.
I chose The Perks of Being a Wallflower because my friends and I had loved the book and were very excited to see the movie when it came out about 5 years ago. When this film first came out, the whole school was talking about it. Also the imagine dragons song used during the trailer was incredibly popular while I was in high school.
I chose All the Small Things by Blink-182 because whenever I hear it, all the nostalgia of my high school years just comes flooding back into my memory and I always get a great feeling because of it.
"Friday Night Lights" both came out while I was in high school and also accurately portrays what my experience with small-town high school football in Ohio looked like (even though it is set in Texas). In many ways, the time I spent on the field sweating, bleeding, fighting, winning, losing, and learning how to both support and depend on my teammates is what sticks with me most.
I chose the the scene from Pirates of the Caribbean where Jack Sparrow arrived on his small, sinking ship because even though the vessel was going down, Jack kept his composure. High school for me was filled with moments where even though things seemed like they were going bad, it was important to keep a stiff upper lip and eventually, everything turned out okay.
One of my favorite movies of all time is "The Revenge of the Nerds". Yes, I know, WEIRD! But I absolutely love the movie and when I watch it, it brings me back to a special and innocent time in my life. Although it came out before my time in high school and the movie is about college, the different parts and aspects of the movie remind me of my high school years more than my college years. If you want a good laugh watch this 2-minute clip of the "talent show". Enjoy!
this song reminds me of my high school years because I grew up in a very small tight knit community and this song was a theme throughout senior year. It reminds me of the slideshows of pictures of my graduating class at all of our events throughout the course of high school.
I chose Dead Poets Society (1989) starring the wonderful Robin Williams. My freshman English teaching showed the class this movie and it inspired me to be a teacher! It is still one of my favorite movies to this day.
This is the epic finale scene of one of my favorite movies ever, Napoleon Dynamite. My friends and I would quote this movie on a daily basis in high school. While this movie has little to no plot, it accurately portrays the awkwardness most go through during high school. It also shows that if you stick to what you believe in, you can achieve great things. Gosh!
I had posted a song the other day, but I was just reminded of a different song that I wanted to post instead! In my high school each graduating class would sing a song during the graduation ceremony. My class sang "Seasons of Love" from Rent, but there was a debate over that song and "Give it Up" by The Format. The song by The Format reminds me so much of my graduating class and all my friends.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5wVZwdHmRY This song, 'Don't Stop Believing' by Journey, was played at every single one of our high school events. Dances, rallies, and even in the locker rooms before sporting events. Every single time this song plays I am reminded of so many wonderful high school memories and all of the people that I was fortunate to spend those four years with!
